OFFICE BUILDING OF HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE

Against the bulk of newly developed buildings, the office building, built from 1928-1929, stands out in a pleasant way.

It is one of the architectural icons of the early 20th century. The strictly vertical lines of the lime stone facade with twin pillars running from the first floor all the way to the flat roof resemble the art deco style of US high-rise buildings of the 1920s. The architect Heinrich Straumer additionally increased the vertical appearance by extending the corner braces, emphasizing them in addition by a male bronze statue on a sandstone pedestal.

The Lenzhaus was last renovated in 2001. In the course of the impending work also the staircase is to be renovated, observing regulations set forth for landmarked buildings.

The Lenzhaus – an eye-catcher in the heart of Berlin’s City West. With the Lenzhaus, Heinrich Straumer gave his adopted home a modern office building of historical importance.
